Science

At Sunnyhill, we want our pupils to develop the skills they need to understand and appreciate the world around them. We equip them with scientific knowledge and the ability to investigate important questions. We use the National Curriculum to ensure that the pupil’s scientific knowledge and skills are strengthened as they move up the school.

To secure the pupil’s scientific knowledge and skills, science is taught every week. We support our pupils to use the facts they have learned to ask questions and give rational and informed answers. They conduct independent, scientific investigations and evaluate their results. Pupils are given the opportunity to think critically and consider whether experiments are fair.

These are the six enquiry skills that we teach our children to use to investigate science:
Each of our science topics is connected to a key scientist. These scientists range from people working today to important historical figures and have been chosen to reflect a range of civilisations and cultures. We hope they will help to inspire our children to see the breadth and importance of scientific study.

Enrichment

At Sunnyhill we believe in the importance of developing and extending the curriculum through a wide range of purposeful enrichment opportunities. These opportunities include; educational visits, visiting speakers, sports competitions, after school clubs, music recitals and school exhibitions. Through these experiences we want our pupils to:

● develop their interests and talents
● learn life skills that will equip them to be responsible, respectful and active citizens.
