Music

At Sunnyhill School, we include a vibrant music and creative arts offer both within and beyond our curriculum.

Through the Lambeth Music Programme, our pupils develop foundation skills in music through singing activities based on the Kodaly teaching method.  In subsequent years, pupils further their musicianship by learning to play an instrument within a whole-class ensemble.  Our pupils learn to read music to develop an understanding of a variety of music styles.  Pupils will enjoy the many associated benefits of music through composing music, recitals and performances (both performing and watching).

From Nursery to Year 6, the pupils are given opportunities to perform in front of an audience.  Such performances develop skills such as self-expression, confidence, risk-taking, cooperation and communication.  Our pupils will experience the sense of achievement that the performing arts can bring.

The Music Pathway below shows the learning that will take place in each year group.

Enrichment

At Sunnyhill we believe in the importance of developing and extending the curriculum through a wide range of purposeful enrichment opportunities.  These opportunities include; educational visits, visiting speakers,  sports competitions, after school clubs, music recitals and school exhibitions.  Through these experiences we want our pupils to:

look at subjects in more depth
develop their interests and talents
learn life skills that will equip them to be responsible, respectful and active citizens.
