Design & Technology

Through our robust and practical DT curriculum, children create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with a real life purpose. Our curriculum enables children to use their creativity and technical skills to solve problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We aim to, where purposeful, link DT work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Our children are inspired by inventors, designers, engineers, chefs and manufacturers who have developed ground-breaking products.


Recognising the ever-evolving technological landscape and the pressing environmental issues facing our planet, our DT curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills needed to address future challenges responsibly.
We aim to cultivate a generation of problem-solvers and product designers who prioritise sustainability and actively contribute to a better future for our planet.


Learning is sequenced through the following steps:


Steps to creating DT project:
1. Empathise (research your users needs) and Define (state your users needs and problems)
2. Ideate - create ideas
3. Create a prototype - start to create solutions
4. Test - try your solutions out
5. Evaluate

Enrichment

At Sunnyhill we believe in the importance of developing and extending the curriculum through a wide range of purposeful enrichment opportunities.  These opportunities include; educational visits, visiting speakers,  sports competitions, after school clubs, music recitals and school exhibitions.  Through these experiences we want our pupils to:

  • look at subjects in more depth
  • develop their interests and talents
  • learn life skills that will equip them to be responsible, respectful and active citizens.
